    Family Sponsorship

Spousal Sponsorship in Canada allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse or common-law partner for permanent residency. The process involves proving the genuineness of the relationship and meeting specific eligibility criteria

Common-law Partnership Sponsorship in Canada allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their common-law partner for permanent residency. To qualify, the couple must have lived together in a conjugal relationship for at least one year. Both partners must meet eligibility requirements and provide evidence of their relationship, such as shared financial responsibilities and cohabitation. Successful sponsorship grants the partner the ability to live, work, and study in Canada.

The Parent/Grandparent Sponsorship Program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their grandparents to become permanent residents of Canada. This program aims to reunite families by enabling Parents/grandparents to live with their families in Canada. Sponsors must meet specific income requirements and agree to support their grandparents financially.

A de facto family member is a person who is not legally recognized as a family member under Canadian immigration regulations but is dependent on the principal applicant and has been living with them in a relationship of dependency.

    This dependency may be:

    • Emotional,

    • Financial,

    • Physical, or

    • Personal support.

IRCC considers de facto family members on a case-by-case basis, particularly in humanitarian or compassionate situations, to determine if they should be included in the application.
